Since we're now into October I thought I recount events that happened at the previous place I lived in until four years ago.

Friends of mine had bought a renovated farm that had lain empty for over forty years, two buildings converted into one L shaped dwelling. The property also had a barn conversion and I moved there in the summer of 2007. The barn was at least three hundred and fifty years old with thick solid walls, two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor then up a spiral staircase to the living room which covered all the floorspace. Seven windows on three walls with one large oval window looking North over the river Clyde with a fine view of Ben Lomond.

I loved the place and still miss it and felt very comfortable there with nothing of note taking place until October came around. I can only describe the house as getting very active during that month the most common occurrence being the front door repeatedly being knocked on loudly during the night. My bedroom was right beside the front door and being a light sleeper I was out into the halway instantly each time this occurred but nobody at the door, the top half of the door was glass so easy to see if anyone was standing there also the courtyard was fitted with PIR lights which switch on with any motion detected but they stayed unlit, electric gates basically sealed the property anyway.

My bedroom window also was knocked on occasion as well as the toilet being flushed which is apparently impossible as it's purely a mechanical process. I'd also hear footsteps in the living room upstairs when I was in the bedroom.

A friend was visiting one day and as he was leaving walking down the spiral staircase he froze, I heard the sound of the front door handle being moved up and down as if locking. It's quite stiff so makes a distinctively loud noise. I though maybe my neighbour was coming over from the main house but my friend turned to me and said he just saw the door handle move on its own, the top half being glass he could see there was nobody on the other side. He left in a hurry and didn't come back to the house for several months.

As October moved into November the activity died down and ceased altogether and this became the pattern for the next seven years I lived there. Despite the activity I never felt scared or threatened and would happily move back there given the chance.

Interesting you mention that this had a pattern of activity that occured mainly during one month. I have a similar pattern in my current home, and also in October. I know why the pattern is here in my home, as it used to be my rental property and the tenents here had a son who committed suicide. In October. Since that happened 6 years ago, this has been an ongoing pattern here.

I wonder if the property you speak of had anything similar to trigger the pattern there?

I could never find any information on the house and I was the first person to live there since it had been converted from a barn, perhaps in the past it was a dwelling maybe for seasonal workers who did travel from Ireland to find work along the Clyde coast and almost certainly would have worked that particular farm. I'm guessing we'll never know what happened.

Renovation has a bad habit of stirring up the energy at an old site as well. I'm glad you were comfortable with it all and enjoyed staying there. We don't have any fear when the activity starts here, either. We're actually kind of used to it now. Mainly lights on and off and the occasional large mist form moving on through the hall. I went out to where his ashes are buried here on the property this year and said a prayer, used a bit of holy water, and asked him to please stay over in the light this year. I don't feel he's a ghost, but a young man who simply comes to visit his parents during this time, although they are no longer here.

Wow LG. How cool to stay in such an old structure! I'd love it too. So much history. If only the walls could talk.
