It's supposed to create a portal effect, from what I understand. And mirrors are notorious for demon activity and portals.

i know people use obsidian mirrors for scrying, even when practicing goetic magick. one reason why if im buying obsidian, its brand new not second hand

Doing Scrying should not include portals. You're supposed to look within and use it as a focus tool for inner visualization.
