So, if you take a little bit of alcohol from time to time, what's your preference? Do you prefer a nice amber beer? A stout? Or would you rather have something stronger? Bourbon? Scotch?

I suppose I'm a "dark" kind of guy. I prefer dark roast coffee, and stout beer. I used to drink Old Rasputin Imperial Stout or a local Kansas City beer called Dark Truth Stout, but I can't find either of them here. I've found Guinness Foreign Extra Stout to be a more than adequate replacement, however, but when my boys visit in a couple of days they are bringing me a supply of my old favorites.

As for liquor, I suppose my favorite is Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, although Evan Williams Honey Reserve is quite tasty without a mixer.

However, the truth is that I'm only an occasional drinker. My occasions were more frequent in college, but my palette wasn't as discerning.

Waaaay back when, I used to be a Rum and Diet Coke kinda girl when I did drink a bit. I've never been fond of alcohol, per say. It's probably because I've been leery of it, since my dad was a functional alcoholic (of the very pleasant variety but addicted none the less) and I have a brother and sister who are also alcoholics. Tends to run in the family so I've always backed away from it. Sometimes at the holidays I might splurge and have a glass of wine or a few sips of hubs' beer, but otherwise I abstain. Since I also take meds that impact the liver, it's probably for the best anyway!

Now, if they'd just legalize marijuana in my state I'd be all set!

I am a bit of a snob when it comes to beer and refuse to drink it in lieu of wine. Having said that, I am not crazy about the taste of wine either and rarely drink. If I go out to a place like TGIFridays, I will get some kind of ice cream with liquor drink such as a Grasshopper, Mudslide, Nutty Monk (with Frangelico). If I have to drink straight alcohol, I will have Baily's, Kahlua, Southern Comfort or any other sickly sweet drink. One drink is enough to give me the giggles and will have me making inappropriate remarks the rest of the night.

Now, if they'd just legalize marijuana in my state I'd be all set!
